Recognition for our new Centre for Learning and Innovation

A desire to provide the very best in education, resources and facilities has been the driving force behind the success of Ormiston College since our founding in 1988. Over the years, many awards have been received acknowledging these successes. More recently, since becoming a Microsoft Worldwide Showcase School, the College has been named Innovative Schools Winner by The Educator for four consecutively years. Last year, it was announced that the College was the National Winner of the 2018 Education Award for Best Use of Technology.

Due to the many invitations to present at various worldwide conferences, the College has received local, interstate and global recognition for outstanding, innovative teaching and learning. To ensure that Ormiston College continued to provide the very best in education, resources and facilities current to the needs of tomorrow’s world, the new Centre for Learning and Innovation (CLI) was constructed. This was officially opened in April of this year by His Excellency, the Honourable Paul de Jersey, Governor of Queensland.

The outstanding building has become the epicentre of Ormiston College, reactivating the very heart of our campus.Students, staff, parents and visitors are enjoying the new dimensions of virtual reality, multimedia, drone flying, coding, robotics, the many, many more outstanding features within the extensive building. It hosts Junior School and Secondary School Libraries, a substantial Makerspace area, facilities for collaborative class study as well as areas for independent learning, and is noted as having Australia’s largest interactive floor space. After a long period of time conceptualising, researching, designing and constructing, the new completed CLI has become a busy hub, playing a vital role in the education of our students.

We were delighted to learn that the building has earned two major awards: The 2019 Australian Institute of Architects, State Award, Educational Architecture (via BSPN Architecture) and the Master Builders Association, Brisbane Region, Education and Facilities Award (via Rohrig Constructions).

The success of our new building is testament to the College’s ongoing commitment to innovation and, more importantly, the preparation of student needs for the 21st century and beyond, ensuring their success in tomorrow’s workforce.
