The Connected Generation Parent Workshop

This week, over 100 parents joined us for The Connected Generation Workshop. Special guest presenter and parent, Richard Booth delivered two sessions on the latest social apps, being a good digital citizen and some practical take-home tips aimed at protecting our children while online. He also emphasised the necessity for parents to develop an honest and trusting relationship with their child to encourage them to tell them when there’s a problem.

Parents also had the opportunity to hear from our Executive on how Ormiston College is harnessing the power of technology to enrich our learning programs. Amanda Bowker, Dean of Teaching and Learning, presented a ‘Leveraging the power of Minecraft’ workshop to demonstrate how we are using the program to engage our learners in STEM design tasks, as well as our wider reading programs. In addition, she also demonstrated some of our core online programs to better position parents to support their child at home. Tamara Sullivan, Head of Academics and Innovation, presented a workshop on ‘Future Technologies’ to demonstrate how the College is embedding new and emerging technologies in our curriculum in a way that resonates with our students and readies them for the future, and finally, Travis Goulter, Head of Junior School and Erin Ware, Deputy Head of Junior School, presented strategies that we are using to ensure our students are developing a positive online footprint.
